Misfits: A Comedy Album
My characters are not just witty observations, they’re pieces of myself. Through each one I’m wrestling with myself as much as the character, although I don’t usually share the details with you as it’s boring. What’s more exciting is the character, who is the hyperbolic manifestation of thoughts that I - and you - have about the world we’re living through.
Throughout it all, my intention is to give you slices of humanity so that you can laugh at our collective foibles and limitations.
When I was looking at the uncertainty that is the are-we-actually-coming-out-of-the-pandemic-world I decided to create something that was 1) already happening anyway - I’ve been writing songs in the voice of my characters for years now and have amassed a collection and 2) was something I could control.
I thought: why not simply put them together into an album?
It was obvious - I was creating it before I conceptualized it. While in Florida performing in the spring I spontaneously shot two music videos with a magical team who was all in the right place in the right time. The bones was there, all I had to do was solidify and produce.
This album happened the way the best projects to: right under my nose, without any conscious realization.
Inspired by Monty Python, Albert Brooks, and Andy Kaufman, you won’t be bored as you listen through goofy songs, zany meditations, and even an ASMR presentation.
Here’s a preview of one of the tracks: Marie Antoinette Sings For the Supertax. She and Melania have a lot in common, except Melania stands by her privilege and Marie Antoinette has learned her lesson.
