We Need to Connect Offline: A Valentines Card Story

Every year I send a holiday or New Years card, but this year between finishing my book, launching a podcast, and shooting a character reel (more on that soon) I was burnt out.

And then I ran away for a bit. Climbing Mount Kenya and driving around the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater -- Why drive? Walk and the hyenas will eat you. 😱 -- has been on my bucket list for years and since the world is on fire I figured I might as well do it before it has all turned to ashes.

While I was there I did a few FaceSwaps as Melania. This means that amongst the bug spray, camping gear, and binoculars I also packed a wig. I live a very strange life.

The locals loved seeing these vids after I shot them. They enjoy media about American politics because right now, in one person's word's, "You make us forget about our own problems."

They also found it satisfying to watch someone poke fun at a political leader, because in their country that could mean jail time or police harassment.

So I don't take my privilege to create the provocative content lightly.

It means that I have the opportunity to create a creative community that is the change.

That's you.

Which brings me back to the card.

I thought  it might make more sense to do it for Valentines Day because:

1) You haven't gotten a Valentines card  from a friend since 5th grade. So how much fun would that be?

and

2) The Valentines holiday reflects more of the sentiment of the card: human connection. With physical mail we're connecting as humans on a more visceral level than just email.
