Actual Real-Life Good News // Reconcile the Aisle Podcast

“Restorative justice is about healing. And healing in communities.” — Gina M. Hill
The election of Joe Biden did not change the fact that we’re a divided bunch of Americans. In creating my podcast Reconcile the Aisle I tried to use some humor in finding out how we can make sense of and thrive in the insanity. No concrete answers were found, but I spoke with people who are successful in making a positive change in an open-hearted empathetic way.

Gina M. Hill is one of those people. We spoke about her work in Restorative Justice within Oakland schools and how we can adapt the techniques to avoid ripping our hair out.

Specifically in her episode we spoke about:

  • How restorative justice is an alternative model to working with students in schools on behavior

  • The pattern of suspension rates following incarceration rates, and how restorative justice addresses that problem

  • Then Carmella comes in and wonders if restorative justice methods can stop her family from fighting over the dinner table
